The value of a social sciences degree in today’s job market
February 18 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Christine Lee, Vice President, Cybersecurity Analyst at Gartner, for a conversation on how a social science or humanities degree can open doors in the private sector.
Christine will share insights from her current role as an advisor to global cybersecurity leaders and offer an inside look at consulting and advisory industry.
She will discuss her transition from academia to the private sector, highlighting the experiences that made her competitive in the job market, such as conducting field research in China/Taiwan, organizing an edited volume with global experts, and leading conferences and seminars on technical topics as a non-expert.
Social science degrees have significant value in an environment marked by technological disruption, rapid change, and economic uncertainty. Christine will outline the specific skills and competencies – such as AI, quantitative and qualitative analysis, intellectual history, and subject matter expertise – that will help students maximize their impact and employability.
Christine has an undergraduate degree in Economics and International Relations and a PhD in Political Science from Duke University. She was a tenured faculty member at St. John’s College, Annapolis, Maryland, from 2013-2019, where she led seminars across a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum, including math, natural sciences, ancient Greek, philosophy, theology, and literature.
The talk will be chaired by Matthias Benzer, Lecturer in Sociology, School of Sociological Studies, Politics, and International Relations.
